Special Heather

December 24th, 2015|

My husband and I first met Heather when we attended her antenatal classes. After our son was born, we continued seeing her on a weekly basis for check ups, vaccinations etc. Heather is kind and caring and always willing to assist, whether it be with baby or mommy related issues! She has a very soothing and calming presence and one automatically feels at ease when around her. Heather also always takes my calls/text messages/whatsapps and replies almost immediately. Living in a city that isn’t my home has been challenging but having people like Heather have made it that much easier. Thank you!

“I have her on speed dial under the name ‘Saint Heather’ “

January 31st, 2015|

Heather is so much more than a nurse and lactation consultant. I have her on speed dial under the name ‘Saint Heather’.

She is a teacher, a nurturer, a confidante and an absolute blessing to all of us experiencing parenthood for the first time. Her warm, calm, compassionate nature and love for children is so beyond incredible, I could not be more grateful for all that she has done for me and my family.

Her passion for developing a supportive network of new mums is astounding. Thanks to Heather, I have met some incredible people on this crazy journey of motherhood and very thankful to have developed relationships that will last for years to come.

“As a guy I was hesitant about going to an antenatal class”

January 31st, 2015|

As a guy I was hesitant about going to an antenatal class. Heather helped make the class enjoyable and something to look forward to each week. She understands babies, pregnant woman, and first time dads better than you could imagine. I can’t imagine I would be the Father I am today without her help. She truly is amazing.

“She’s become a supportive extension of our family”

January 27th, 2015|

Heather has been not only provided us with a wealth of knowledge with regards to being a parent but she’s become a supportive extension of our family. If it wasn’t for Heather we wouldn’t have met other moms who have now become such dear friends.

“Sitting with Heather … left me feeling empowered and confident”

January 20th, 2015|

So much that’s said and written about becoming a new mom revolves around fear: what you shouldn’t do, what you must be afraid of, what mistakes you could make, how terrifying birth will be. Sitting with Heather is the very opposite of this: from my first interaction with her, she left me feeling empowered and confident, and sure that every decision I made would be the right one for me and my family.

Heather makes it clear that there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to birth or parenting: a natural birth might work for some but not others, breastfeeding might be easy for some but not others, co-sleeping might be a nightmare for you but that doesn’t mean you’re a worse mom for having your child sleep in a different room.  And she supports you in whichever of these options you choose, while giving you the information you need to know that the decision you’ve made is right for you.  If you’re looking for a welcoming, supportive, non-dogmatic approach to parenting, you’ve come to the right person.

“I could see that night why women in Cape Town refer to her as the Baby whisperer”

January 15th, 2015|

The first night that we brought our baby boy home from hospital, he screamed for 6 hours straight. My husband and I were beside ourselves as didn’t know what was wrong! When the crying started again the following night we called Heather in distress and asked for help.

She was in the middle of teaching an ante-natal class and said she would be there the minute she was done. She arrived at our place at 9:15pm, solved his problem in minutes and stayed there until at least 10pm, while I mastered my breast feeding, learnt how to utilize the breast pump properly and she also watched how we were feeding him. When she left that night, we had a perfectly content little bundle swaddled sound-asleep in his bassinet. Heather was such a life savior, and so generous of her time, I could see that night why women in Cape Town refer to her as the Baby whisperer – she really is a guru on all baby-related topics!

“Heather was a real voice of reason in all the craziness”

January 12th, 2015|

Heather was a real voice of reason in all the craziness that was pregnancy and the early days of being a parent. There is so much fear-mongering out there that it was refreshing to hear her common-sense advice. Heather’s support is wonderfully non-judgemental – whether we were planning c-sections or “natural” births, breastfeeding or formula, I always left from an antenatal class or a visit feeling that whatever choices we made were just fine – that kind of support and reassurance is something that new parents don’t hear nearly enough! And of course, without Heather’s amazing breastfeeding support there’s no way I’d have been able persevere through the tough start we had. I can’t recommend Heather highly enough!

“Heather is one of those special people”

December 17th, 2014|

Heather is one of those special people you feel incredibly grateful to have met. Her kindness, knowledge and support are unparalleled at a time when new families need it most. Her caring nature extends far beyond the call of duty, and as a mother herself, she is intuitively aware and empathetic to just about any situation! I could not recommend her highly enough through the journey to motherhood and beyond. She is one-of-a-kind.
